There is a fraudulent text going around informing people that they have missed jury duty and they have to pay $500.00 or a bench warrant will be issued for their arrest. This is a scam! Neither the Whitfield County Clerk of Superior Court nor the Sheriff will ever send you a text asking for you to pay money to avoid a bench warrant. We will also never ask for your personal information, banking information, etc. NEVER give out personal information or banking information over the phone, internet, Facebook, etc. Please let your friends and family know.
Origin of Clerk of Court
The Clerk of Superior Court is established in the Constitution of the State of Georgia. The clerk is one of the four constitutional officers who can be found in each of the 159 counties in the state, the other constitutional officers are the sheriff, the tax commissioner and the probate judge. The clerk’s duties are statutory in nature and are found in the Official Code of Georgia in literally hundreds of statutes created by the state legislature. In addition, the clerk has an obligation to follow the court rules for each court they may serve. The clerk is an elected position in each county, providing personal service directly to the public on a daily basis though direct contact with the clerk or through contact with his or her deputy clerks.
